A fever is essentially a sign of another illness or ailment. When your body is battling an infection, like the flu, or as a result of an excessive buildup of toxins, a fever may develop.
Anyone who has experienced a fever knows how unpleasant it can be, with its high temperatures, headaches, muscle pain, and loss of appetite. In addition to these typical fever symptoms, some persons experience dehydration, weakness, and mild shaking. Fever is the medical term for a condition where the body temperature is elevated above normal. 37 degrees Celsius, or 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, for adults is typically regarded as normal; nevertheless, this might vary from body type to body type. Some people have a tendency to have greater body temperatures. But generally speaking, fever is defined as a temperature exceeding 99 degrees Fahrenheit. A fever is essentially a sign of another illness or ailment. When your body is battling an infection, like the flu, or as a result of an excessive buildup of toxins, a fever may develop.
Dr. Ashutosh Gautam, an authority in ayurveda, says “Ayurveda prescribes a few traditional herbs, including sudarshan leaves, ginger, giloy, tulsi (holy basil), neem, black pepper, and cloves, to treat fever. These have been effective in reducing fever when consumed.”
If the fever is on the higher end, and stays for more than three days, chances are that it could be due to a viral infection, chikunginya, dengue or malaria. In such cases it is better to consult with a doctor immediately.
However, these home treatments may be helpful in cases of mild fever:
1. Basil
Basil is a useful herb for reducing fever. This herb is just as efficient as a variety of commercially available antibiotics. Its curative qualities will instantly assist in lowering fever. Boil around 20 basil leaves, then add 1 teaspoon of ginger that has been crushed to the tulsi water that has been drained. Continue to boil the mixture until it is reduced by half. For three days, consume this tea two or three times daily with some honey to experience relief.
2. Garlic
According to the book Healing Foods by DK Publishing, garlic has a ton of antibacterial qualities. “Allicin and diallylsulfides, sulfurous chemicals that are antibacterial and antifungal, are the principal beneficial components of this member of the allium family.” Garlic’s warming properties can also decrease high fever by encouraging sweating. One clove of crushed garlic is added to one cup of hot water. After 10 minutes, strain the mixture. For optimal effects, consume this twice daily.
3. Ginger
The perennial herb Zingiber officinale, which is indigenous to China and India, can help with a variety of health issues, including fever, sore throat, inflammation, and the common cold. Its organic antiviral and antibacterial components support your body’s natural defense mechanisms by assisting in the battle against illness. By mixing 1 1/2 teaspoons of grated ginger with 1 cup of boiling water, you can make it into a tea. Drink this tea at least three or four times per day and flavor it with honey. Alternatively, you might combine 1 1/2 teaspoons of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of ginger juice, and 1 tablespoon of honey. For optimal results, consume this mixture two to three times each day.
4. Leaves of cilantro
According to Dr. Vasant Lad’s The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies, blending a handful of cilantro leaves with about 1/3 cup of water until smooth and straining the mixture can assist with fever symptoms. The book advises taking 2 tablespoons of the remaining liquid three times a day to help decrease fever.
5. Grapes
The grapes are fading. Add 1/2 teaspoon each of cumin, fennel, and sandalwood powder to 1 cup of grape juice before drinking. In his book, Dr. Vasant Lad states that this will aid in fever relief.
6. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
It is also claimed that apple cider vinegar is a successful treatment for fever. The vinegar’s mild acidity helps to absorb heat and produce a cooling effect. The vitamins and minerals found in ACV also aid in replenishing the body’s mineral stores, which are frequently depleted by pollutants. For optimal benefits, combine 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of honey in a glass of water. Consume the mixture at least twice or three times daily.
Remember, it is best to visit a doctor or physician as soon as possible if these home treatments do not relieve your symptoms and your temperature continues to rise.
