Dental health is an important aspect of overall wellness. While we place a lot of emphasis on having gleaming white teeth, we must not overlook the importance of our gums. Gingivitis is caused by unhealthy gums, which can progress to periodontitis if left untreated.

There are long-term consequences to this, such as receding gum lines, which can lead to loose teeth or even tooth loss. There are, however, some simple measures to avoid gum disease.

Chemical additives, artificial sweeteners, and fluoride are commonly found in commercial toothpaste and mouthwash. Shopping for dental care products might be difficult if you, like me, try to avoid chemicals and artificial components. Even “natural” brands have problematic components.

After much research, I learned that making my products was simple. I questioned why it had taken me so long to make the transition once I discovered how little time and money was involved.

Toothpaste is made from natural ingredients.

a quarter cup of coconut oil and a quarter cup of baking soda

ten to fifteen drops Essential Oil of Peppermint

If your coconut oil is solid at room temperature, melt it in a double boiler over low heat.

To the heated coconut oil, add the peppermint essential oil.

Combine the coconut oil and baking soda in a blender or food processor until smooth and creamy.

In a tiny mason jar, store the mixture. To scoop the toothpaste onto your brush, you’ll need a little spoon.

Artificial components can be found in a variety of products, not just toothpaste. Artificial colors, tastes, and chemicals abound in mouthwash. Look at the color, for example, it’s not natural. Mouthwash’s antibacterial capabilities are much more concerning. Mouthwash is designed to destroy bacteria in your mouth, but it has no means of identifying which bacteria are hazardous. Rather, it eliminates all microorganisms, both healthy and evil. In our mouths, we have many good bacteria that help us combat issues like tooth decay and gum disease.

People who eat fermented foods high in pro-biotic lactic acid bacteria have better teeth and fewer tooth decay, according to studies.

Now, I’m not suggesting that you start rinsing your mouth with pickle juice before bedtime, but you may switch from commercial mouthwash to a natural mouthwash that has greater oral health benefits. This mouthwash, made with baking soda and salt, is simple to prepare, costs a fraction of what you’d pay at the store, and helps to enhance your gum health.

A mouthwash made from natural ingredients

a quart of distilled water

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1 teaspoon of salt

10 drops of essential oil for flavor (Peppermint, cinnamon, and clove are good choices).

In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the baking soda and salt in the water. Add the essential oil. Mix thoroughly. Store in a lidded mason jar.

Before using, give it a good shake to ensure that all of the contents are well combined. Before going to bed, swish a mouthful for 30 seconds.

Pulling with Coconut Oil.

You’re probably cleaning and flossing your teeth before going to bed. Oil pulling is another method for repairing gums.

Oil pulling is an old Ayurvedic technique that has been used in India for millennia. Oil pulling is supposed to “draw” unwanted germs and toxins from your mouth as well as clean your teeth, improving gum health and overall wellness. Oil pulling is a straightforward process. Simply swish a tablespoon of oil around in your mouth for a few seconds. The most popular oils used are coconut and sesame oil, however, olive oil can also be utilized.

Swish for 15-20 minutes to get the best results before spitting out the oil.

It can be challenging at first, so if you can’t handle 15 minutes, start with 5 minutes and gradually increase to longer periods. This is something you may do before going to bed in the evening to boost your gum health.
