Acne is a skin problem that occurs from adjustments in the pili and the erector pili muscle, causing hair to stand on end.

Acne lesions, also known as pimples, blemishes, spots, and zits, commonly appear on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders, and upper arms.

During adolescence, but only rarely into maturity.

During puberty, an increase in sex hormones is the major cause of acne and sebaceous units (the unit consists of the hair shaft, the hair follicle, and the sebaceous gland that produces sebum, which rises when it contracts). It generally comes as a surprise.

It can range in severity from mild to moderate to severe. Several other elements contribute to its occurrence.

Acne affects people of all races and ages, but it is most common among teenagers and young adults. Males are more likely than females to develop acne during their teenage years. Acne can persist throughout adulthood, and it is more common in women when it does.
